We chose the name “Habaq”, the Arabic word for basil, because it is simple, familiar, and present in every home. Its fragrance unites hearts. For us, basil is a symbol of shared life and daily rhythms filled with cooperation and connection. Just as it clears the air and brings freshness, we aspire to bring the public sphere a spirit of openness, love, and harmony.
Habaq reminds us that the simplest things can carry strength and joy, and that culture, when open and alive, spreads like its scent: freely and without boundaries.

Habaq Media is an independent platform from Sweida and part of the Habaq Collective. We tell everyday life as it is, covering the land, the markets, the songs, the faces, and the streets. We highlight local talent and connect those inside Syria with the diaspora.
